Promoters redeveloping the old bull ring in Nueva Andalucía, near the marina of Puerto Banús, have announced details of a project that will see the building converted into a cultural auditorium. The newly named Marbella Arena is slated to open in May of next year and the exciting venture will see the once controversial venue host concerts, sporting events and a selection of dining establishments.
The old bullring that last closed its doors in 2010 and is no longer a stage for Spanish bullfighting but has been used successfully in the past for musical entertainment, with the likes of The Gypsy Kings playing on its centre stage.
The new redevelopment project is being lead by Grupo Teatro Goya, which is investing thirty million euros in its renovation. The completed centre will hold an estimated 5,000 people, with space amongst this capacity for 1,000 seated places situated around the ring, and 60 gallery seats located in three tiers.
Alongside the restaurants, the bullring will feature relaxing seating terraces and bar areas, with plans in development to create a temporary roof covering that can be utilised in winter.
