Puerto Banús marina welcomes mega yachts

The Saudi royal family were in Marbella this summer, just some of the high-profile Middle Eastern visitors to this region, and as always, they brought a large entourage with them, who filled the shops, restaurants and night clubs till the early morning hours. You see, thanks to the Middle Eastern climate, it’s customary there to rest during the day and head out in the cool of evening, so Puerto Banús was a popular destination for late-night dining, shopping and partying again this summer.

A Saudi royal visit is usually accompanied by the presence of one of the largest, most opulent yachts seen in the Mediterranean – and the royal yacht is a feast for boating enthusiasts to behold, yet in August this year it had some serious competition from other imposing floating palaces of the sea. Among where the stylish vessel of none other than world-famous fashion designer Roberto Cavalli, the beautiful sailing yacht of Baroness Thyssen, and the truly impressive style and magnitude of Ricardo Salinas’s ship, Azteca.

As its name suggests, the super yacht and its owner are Mexican, and at 72 metres in length it is competition for the Saudi royals’ Shaf London and Cavalli’s Freedom, all of which symbolise the glamour that has been associated with Puerto Banús, the Golden Mile and Marbella for decades.
