The fourth edition of the newly reinstated Senior Tennis Masters Marbella returned to its home at the exclusive surroundings of the Puente Romano Tennis Club for what proved to be yet another top event that lives up to expectations year in, year out.
In previous years legends such as John McEnroe, Yannick Noah, Sebastien Grosjean and many of Spain’s greatest players enlivened the courts with great skill and wonderful, fun-filled moments of exhibition tennis. The competitive spirit, however, remains in their blood, so all joking aside the players go full-out for what has become a prestigious title in the international seniors’ tour.
This year, the tournament held on the 27th and 28th September in Marbella saw David Ferrer, Feliciano López, Tommy Haas and Tommy Robredo do battle, with Ferrer and López – both only recently on the main international tennis stage – fighting it out in the final. The victory in this all-Spanish encounter ended in a strong comeback from Feliciano López, who overcame a 6-2 loss in the first set to clinch the tournament with an epic 11-9 win in the final set.
With the setting, hospitality facilities and excellent sport on display, we’re looking forward to next year’s Senior Tennis Masters Marbella, a five-star event for our town.
